Peer Support and Clinical Mentorship

Peer Support and Clinical Mentorship

The practice of clinical herbalism in the modern world is complicated, and it’s impossible to learn everything you’ll need to know in even the best herbal medicine programs. The Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine provides lifelong clinical support and mentorship to its residency program graduates. This Peer Support and Clinical Mentorship offering is designed to support graduates of other clinical herbal programs.

Read on to learn more about Peer Support and Clinical Mentorship, what it looks like, who it is and isn’t for, and the associated costs.  If you have questions or are ready to sign up, please contact us.

What It Looks Like

If you have graduated from a clinical herbal program and you have a tough case you can email an introduction, SOAP notes (with identifying personal information removed) and your questions about the case to mentorship@eclecticschoolofherbalmedicine.com. Thomas will look over the case and questions, and record a video talk through and recommendations for next steps. In the process any areas of understanding that might use improvement will be noted, and educational resources recommended. This asynchronous process is a convenient way for active practitioners to gain relevant real-world insights an ongoing education. Live online mentoring isn’t included in this offering but will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Case review recordings will be delivered within a week.

Who This Is and Isn’t For

This offering is only open to graduates of clinical herbal medicine programs (such as MUIH, Commonwealth, Colorado, Berkley, ArborVitae, etc.) and is not for self-taught practitioners or those with less than a clinical level of herbalism training. This is for active herbal clinicians only. This offering is not for your personal health problems (book a consult). This offering isn’t for your sick family member you want to work with (but shouldn’t – refer out). The only health challenge I don’t offer mentoring for is cancer (that requires a specialist.) On occasion, other instructors or graduates from ESHM may be brought into the conversation if they have specialized knowledge relevant to the case. (relational health, complex structural challenges, MCAD, etc.)

The normal cost is $100 a case and includes review of SOAP notes and recent blood work. If you send 500 pages of medical records and blood work, you will be asked for compensation appropriate to the time requirement (Thomas will check in with you before proceeding if there are any additional costs). Expedited reviews are available with 24 hours (normally same day) for $150.

While Thomas will review almost all types of cases he has a special interest in complex cases involving:

  • Mental health and wellness
  • Chronic pain
  • Autoimmunity
  • Chronic digestive challenges
  • Deprescribing strategies (where appropriate and medically supported)
  • Long Covid
  • Undiagnosable illnesses
