This six-part webinar series will prepare you to assess and correct nutrient deficiencies.

Diet is the foundation of health. Understanding how nutrients are utilized in the body, and how to assess nutrient deficiencies and recommend appropriate dietary changes, forms the basis for an empowered client health model.

Class 1 covers the role of carbohydrates in the body including:

  • Monosaccharides
  • Disaccharides
  • Oligosaccharides
  • Polysaccharides
  • Nucleotides

We will discuss the digestion of and utilization of the various simple and complex carbohydrates, carbohydrate intolerance, as well as the role of fiber and resistant starch.

Class 2 covers the role of proteins and fats in the body including:

  • Sources of dietary protein
  • Essential amino acids, non-essential amino acids, conditionally essential amino acids and the therapeutic use of amino acid supplements
  • Fats – saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, how to identify imbalances
  • Therapeutic fats

Class 3 covers the Kreb’s cycle, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5 and their role in energy production including:

  • How to assess dietary insufficiency of B vitamins
  • How to assess increased need for B vitamins
  • Power foods for B vitamin repletion
  • Therapeutic use of B vitamin supplements

Class 4 covers vitamins B6, choline, biotin, folate and B12, along with fat soluble vitamins including:

  • How to identify functional macrocytic anemia
  • Atypical causes of B12 deficiency including SIBO and MTRR mutations.
  • Power foods for B vitamin repletion
  • Vitamin A is not beta carotene
  • The Vitamin A toxicity fear mongering
  • Vitamin D testing and supplementation
  • Vitamin K2

Class 5 covers macro and micro minerals including:

  • Is calcium supplementation necessary or healthy
  • Why everyone needs magnesium and how to make it really cheap
  • Zinc deficiency and zinc/copper imbalances
  • Iodine, why we need it, but not too much
  • Selenium insufficiency, aka another reason to eat Brazil nuts.

Class 6 wraps up our series with the assessment of nutrient deficiencies including:

  • Assessing a 48 hour dietary recall and week long dietary journal
  • Direct and indirect blood test for nutrients.
  • The physical assessment of nutrient deficiencies (skin, gait, tongue, nails).

Each class is between 1.5 and 2 hours. All classes are recorded and posted in our online classroom. The course includes permanent access to videos, handouts and resources, along with an online forum to answer questions about the material.
