An Integrative Approach to the Immune System

The immune system is a complex system, spanning many biological functions and bodily structures. In this course, Thomas will teach us the difference between adaptive, innate, and cell-mediated immunity. Discussion will include our body’s major lines of defense, physical and chemical barriers, and then transition into our body’s immune responses. We will learn how this intelligent system works with our healthy microbes and fights off the pathogenic ones. Thomas will go in-depth with the importance of a healthy gut and associated microbiome. Along with other important immune aspects including nutrition, liver and cellular detoxification, lymphatic drainage, kidney filtration, stress, and mental/emotional attitudes. And the importance of sleep and what its deprivation can do to the immune system.  Presented in this course are our essential immune modulating herbs and fungi, and agents that work to stimulate or enhance the immune system. Alongside these, Thomas will present anti-microbial herbs and when to use them. The plants to be discussed include Astragalus, Reishi, Echinacea, Codonopsis, Ashwagandha, Garlic and more.
