We got our first snow here on the mountain yesterday, a whopping 6 inches! And as I sit inside listening to the strong winds whip thru the trees and watch the snow blow all around, I begin to reflect on what a great year 2016 has been here at ESHM. Don’t get me wrong, there have been many things that have happened in our world that have brought many of us great sadness, but here on the mountain, those things have been instrumental in strengthening our community and student body.
One of the most recent events, and one that I think was a great ending to an abundant year, was our trip to Raindrop Ridge Farm. Dorita Boyd is an excellent farmer, and her and her husband over the last 20 years or so, have built their farm into a herbal growers dream. The soil they have so lovingly attended to is rich and full of life and nutrients, and Dorita has the plants to prove it. Dorita believes in what our students here are doing with the free herbal clinic, and wanted to give us some of her wonderful plants to make into medicines for our community. So we loaded up the van with our tools and full hearts, and headed out to the farm.
